Eco Patrols: Mobile game design

Eco Patrols: Mobile game design

“Eco Patrols in 24 Zones” is an educational e-game that teaches young people about environmental issues through interactive challenges across 24 meridians. Covering topics like biodiversity, energy, and climate change, it promotes problem-solving skills while making sustainability engaging. Designed for both individuals and stakeholders, the game supports discussions on climate action and education.

I designed the game in collaboration with a Croatian developer, handling all UI, illustrations, and visual elements on my own. It was also my first experience with UX research, which sparked my interest in UX design and shaped my transition into the field.

Map design

I designed the game map to resemble a real-world globe while keeping it simple and playful. The terrain is color-coded—green for grasslands, yellow for deserts, and white for icy regions—so players can intuitively recognize the type of environment.

The gameplay begins with a 3D view of the Earth in space, and as users pinch to zoom in, the interactive game world unfolds.

Character design

Character
design

I designed four animal characters—an owl, an octopus, a beaver, and a meerkat—each representing a different type of terrain in the game. These characters appear before and after gameplay to guide players, explain the game mechanics, and offer environmental tips and advice in a friendly and engaging way.

UI design

Since this is an environmental-themed game, I designed the UI with wooden textures as the main visual element and added playful leaf decorations to prevent the interface from feeling empty.

Key elements like buttons were designed with high saturation and subtle strokes to ensure visibility and draw attention effectively.

Mini game design

This game consists of 24 mini-games, each designed to reflect the unique characteristics and climate of different countries. The gameplay is structured across three difficulty levels, allowing players to not only enjoy the game but also learn about environmental issues along the way.

The game was developed in Unity by my teammate.
